How do I choose a record pool? The criteria that matter

To choose a record pool, check six things: the genres you play, the versions on offer, the download allowance, the file quality, the price per month and what happens if you change plans. The right pool is the one that covers your gigs, not the one with the biggest number on its home page.

Does the pool cover the genres I play?

This is the first filter, and the one people skip. A pool that is strong in house can be thin in Hip-Hop, R&B or Latin. Before you pay, open the genre menu.

Bangerz Army sorts its catalogue into 56 subgenres in 7 groups: Bass Music, Urban, Electronic, World, Pop, Gold and DJ Tools. Examples include Hip-Hop, R&B, Latin, Afrobeats, Dancehall, Afro House, Reggaeton and Brazilian. If a track is missing, you can request it from the curators.

Which versions do you need?

It depends on your gigs.

  • Weddings and corporate events need Clean versions, with no explicit lyrics, and Intros to mix in cleanly.
  • In the club you'll mostly play Dirty versions, with the original lyrics, and Intro Dirty.
  • For mashups and creative transitions, the Acapella becomes useful.

Bangerz Army offers six versions: Intro, Intro Clean, Intro Dirty, Clean, Dirty and Acapella. When you build a crate for a wedding, the crate builder puts Intro Clean and Clean first. For the club, it puts Intro Dirty and Dirty first.

How many downloads a month?

Pools handle this differently. Some cap downloads, some don't. Read the terms before you subscribe.

At Bangerz Army, downloads come with a monthly allowance that resets on the 1st of each month. Downloading a track you already have again counts as a new download, so keep a backup of your library.

What file quality?

The booth standard is 320 kbps MP3. Check the tags too: a file that arrives with its BPM and key sorts itself in your software.

Bangerz Army delivers 320 kbps MP3s, ready for Serato, Rekordbox and Traktor. Each file carries the artist, title, BPM, Camelot key and genre.

Check the language too: the terms, the download allowance and the refund rules should be clear to you. The Bangerz Army app is available in English and French.

How much should a record pool cost?

Compare the price per month, and check what happens if you change your mind.

Bangerz Army has three plans. Prices are in euros (EUR).

Plan Price Per month
Pro Standard €24.99 a month €24.99
Pro Gold €69.99 every 3 months about €23.33
Pro Infinity €129.99 every 6 months about €21.67

You can move up to a higher plan at any time, prorated. Moving down is not possible. If you cancel, the subscription does not renew and your access runs to the end of the period you paid for.

How do I test a pool before I pay?

Three checks, all from the pool's public pages and its support.

  1. Look up ten tracks you played last month. Count how many the pool has, and in which versions.
  2. Send one track request to the curators and note how long they take to answer.
  3. Read the download allowance and the plan-change terms in writing, on the pool's own site, before you enter a card.

If the pool misses half your list, it is the wrong pool for your gigs, whatever its price.

FAQ

What is the best record pool?

There isn't one for everybody. The right pool covers your genres, has the versions your gigs need, and has a download allowance that fits how often you play.

Should I subscribe to several record pools?

Not at first. One pool that covers your genres is enough. Some DJs add a second one for a specific style, or buy rare releases per track.

Is a record pool worth it for a beginner DJ?

Yes, once you play in public regularly. Before that, a few tracks bought per track are enough to learn.

Can I change plans at Bangerz Army?

Yes, up to a higher plan, prorated. Moving down to a lower plan is not possible.
